Lavender Scare - Pasco Pride Event

The Lavender Scare is a historic documentary about
how tens of thousands of LGBTQ federal workers who were fired
or denied employment in the 1950s. It premiered on June 18th,
2019, but is currently unavailable on any streaming service,
and is not currently being shown in any theater in Florida.

Pride, with funding from the New Port Richey Cultural
Affairs Committee, will be presenting it as part of our
2nd Annual Pride Week festivities.
We are thrilled to be joined at this event by the author of
the award-winning eponymous book that the documentary is based
on, David K. Johnson. The USF professor will be available
for a Q&A session after the screening.
Please join us for a deep dive into the history of how President
Dwight D. Eisenhower deemed homosexuals to be “security risks”
and vowed to rid the government of all employees discovered
to be gay or lesbian, launching a four-decade witch hunt.
