Non-binary butch artist Rio Romeo (they/them) has released
their latest EP Good God!, out now! Good
God! follows a full range of emotions throughout love
- infatuation, yearning, complacency, insecurity and absolute
unwavering faithfulness. The fully gender neutral EP features
five tracks and is Rio Romeo’s response to “too many straight
love songs in the world.”
Of the EP, Rio says: “Good God! is a story
about queer love and loss. The EP is fully gender neutral. I
found that all of the songs I have loved throughout my life
are very specifically describing patriarchal straight dynamics,
which left me wanting more. There are too many straight love
songs in the world; I write so that at least a few that don’t
fit that mold. Although they are not explicitly visiting queer
subjects, Good God! keeps it open for interpretation
to your own, unique personal life.”
Of the inspiration for the EP, Rio adds: When it comes to
why I wrote Good God!, it was first to express
my own personal emotions. I write from the heart about real
life situations of mine. But, beyond using music as a way to
cope, my primary goal for releasing music to the world is to
leave my listener just a little bit more comfortable with who
they are and how they feel than before.
Good God! features Rio Romeo’s latest single
“Inarticulation,” a song about someone completely head-over-heels
for their lover, but who can’t find quite the right words to
accurately describe their beauty and charm.

As a proud butch member of the non-binary community, Rio is
excited about the release of their latest EP Good God!.
The EP also includes more of Rio Romeo’s previously-released
tracks including “Bet,”
a song about going all in on a fractured relationship, and “Absence,”
which was written in 2018 while Rio was struggling with balancing
their recent bipolar disorder diagnosis and an all-consuming
relationship. Rio revisited “Absence” in 2020, before its release,
and decided to revitalize it with passion, anger and curiosity.

ABOUT RIO ROMEO Rio Romeo is a 23-year-old non-binary butch lesbian interdisciplinary
artist based in Los Angeles. Rio writes music from the heart
and from experience- most of the songs are based on completely
true events. Storytelling and theatricality runs deep in Rio’s
background, as they grew up in theatre and were performing from
a very young age. Rio started playing around on the piano when
they were 17, and eventually got their first acoustic piano
in the summer of 2020. This piano led Rio to start creating
content online, sharing their music on TikTok to over 450,000
people, but empowered them to start sharing their story and
day-to-day as a non-binary butch in America.
They now create content about the day-to-day of their life as
well as addressing bigger issues such as discrimination in medicine
against LGBTQ+ people and queer activism. Rio hopes to empower
young queer people to explore their identities and find home
within themselves through music.
