GRAMMY-NOMINATED SINGER AND LGBTQ ACTIVIST DEBORAH COX TO CLOSE OUT THE 12TH ANNUAL SIN CITY CLASSIC SPORTS FESTIVAL

Cox, a long-standing advocate and ally to the LGBTQ community, will take the stage at the Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas during the Toyota Sin City Classic Closing Party

LOS ANGELES,CA
The Sin City Classic Sports Festival presented by Toyota, the world’s largest annual LGBTQ sporting event, announced today that Grammy-nominated, multi award-winning singer and LGBTQ advocate Deborah Cox will perform during the Festival’s Toyota Sin City Classic Closing Party. The 2019 Sin City Classic, hosted by The Greater Los Angeles Softball Association (GLASA), will take place January 17-20, 2019, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Cox will make a special appearance for the Festival’s Closing Night on January 20 at the Brooklyn Bowl Las Vegas.

“We are thrilled to have Deborah Cox performing at this year’s closing party during the Sin City Classic. She has been a strong ally for the LGBTQ community for decades, and we can't wait to hear her dazzle the crowd with all our favorite songs on Sunday night at the Brooklyn Bowl,” said Ken Scearce, the Sin City Classic Tournament Director.

Over the course of her much-lauded career, Cox has been a known ally of and advocate for the LGBTQ community. In 2016, she was presented the Liberty Bell and Proclamation honor in Philadelphia by Mayor James Kenney and in 2015, for her efforts in the fight against HIV and AIDS in the LGBTQ community, Cox was honored by The Harvey Milk Foundation. Additionally, she’s been honored for her work in the fight for human rights and equality by both the New York and California State Senates and was honored with the Out Music Pillar Award.

Each January the Sin City Classic Sports Festival brings together LGBTQ sports associations from around the world in order for LGBTQ athletes, fans and allies to enjoy a weekend full of competition, companionship and fun. In addition to a full roster of sporting competitions, the festival includes nightly social events, including an Opening Night registration party and the Toyota Sin City Classic Closing Party.

This year, the Sin City Classic has adopted a new initiative, “Play You.” Athletes attending the festival “play” sports in their local communities, but it is not always easy to be “you” in some cities. The tournament welcomes all athletes, regardless of sexual orientation, and promotes an open environment for everyone to participate in sports through the “Play You” initiative. The Sin City Classic encourages athletes to attend, participate and live authentically.

The Sin City Classic is proudly hosted at Flamingo Las Vegas. Additional sponsors include Toyota, which is returning for its third year as presenting sponsor, as well as the Los Angeles Dodgers, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, Athalonz, Caesar’s Entertainment, Charlie’s Las Vegas, Cheers to Las Vegas, Compete, Human Rights Campaign, Piranha Nightclub, GayVN, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Topgolf and White Claw.
